Debating the War on Women – Imam Feisal in “Foreign Policy”

In the May/June issue of Foreign Policy, Mona Eltahawy argues that the real war on women is in the Middle East. Foreign Policy asked Imam Feisal, Sondos Asem, Shadi Hamid, Hanin Ghaddar, and Naheed Mustafa to weigh in on Eltahawy’s claim that many of the men of the Arab world hate women — and the controversial cover image that accompanied it.

In his piece, Imam Feisal argues that for his time, the Prophet Mohammed was a revolutionary feminist and that the Qur’an offered rights and protections previously unavailable to women. He asserts that Muslims have the responsibility to continue this legacy of equality and justice into the 21st century.
