Shariah Index Project (SIP)

The Shariah Index Project intern will work closely with the SIP Program Associate. This internship involves research, writing, editing, and general administrative duties.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Identifying key publications and trends in Islamic law scholarship.
- Liaising with University professors and civil society leaders on topics pertaining to Islamic law and social justice.
- Completing issue research for drafts for SIP book.
- Coordinating and assisting meetings and conferences.

Qualifications: Candidates must have a background in Islamic law or Middle Eastern Studies.  Ideally, candidate will be a graduate student, though advanced undergraduates will be considered if they have research experience exhibited through enrollment in a University thesis program or a strong writing sample. 


Media and Communications

The Media and Communications intern will work closely with all of the divisions at the organization.

The Media and Communications intern will work on a number of projects relating to the promotion of events, campaigns, and initiatives.  The internship involves the use of social media tools, including Twitter and Facebook, and will be responsible for monitoring the occurrence of key terms and individuals in the media for updating and promotional purposes.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

- Updating Cordoba Initiative online social media presence.
- Drafting press releases and media-outreach campaigns
- Calling news media outlets to increase our programs’ public profile.
- Writing op-ed’s and opinion pieces on contemporary social issues, relating to Islam and America.

Qualifications:  The ideal candidate would be enrolled in a journalism program or have experience in the field of journalism.  Candidates will have significant experience in Internet researching and monitoring, as well as social media promotion skills.
